Shadow of a Doubt is a 1943 American psychological thriller film noir directed by Alfred Hitchcock, and starring Teresa Wright and Joseph Cotten. In other words, the jury must be virtually certain of the defendant’s guilt in order to render a guilty verdict. With his family gruesomely murdered around him in their comfortable suburban home, he is arrested, charged and convicted of a crime he claims he did not commit. This means that the prosecution must convince the jury that there is no other reasonable explanation that can come from the evidence presented at trial. It requires the prosecution to prove its case to such a degree that no reasonable doubt can be left in the minds of the jury or judge.
